A Survey on Dynamic Spectrum Access Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks

Abstract: The idea of Cognitive Radio (CR) is to share the spectrum between a user called primary, and a user called secondary. Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) is a new spectrum sharing paradigm in cognitive radio that allows secondary users to access the abundant spectrum holes in the licensed spectrum bands. DSA is an auspicious technology to alleviate the spectrum scarcity problem and increase spectrum utilization. While DSA has attracted many research efforts recently, in this paper, a survey of spectrum access techni… Show more

“…An SCM describes the characteristics and boundaries of spectrum usage of an RF device and it facilitates the autonomous and dynamic selection of spectrum resources across a large number of devices/networks that are sharing spectrum to establish non-interfering wireless communication operations. SCMs simplify spectrum use coordination when compared to other DSA methods that solely rely on sensing to avoid interference between RF devices [15].…”

“…The concept of CSS can be implemented through a parallel fusion model and game theoretic model, but in the state-of-the-art papers [5][6][7][8][9][10], the game theoretic model is regarded as a more appropriate approach for developing self-organized cooperation among SUs. Some of the research works that use game theoretic model as an efficient tool to access the spectrum dynamically are illustrated in [11]. Though CSS overcomes the issues that arise in non-cooperative sensing, however, cooperation of SUs incurs some overhead also.…”
