A Survey on Digital Camera Image Forensic Methods

Abstract: There are two main interests in Image Forensics, namely source identification and forgery detection. In this paper, we first briefly provide an introduction to the major processing stages inside a digital camera and then review several methods for source digital camera identification and forgery detection. Existing methods for source identification explore the various processing stages inside a digital camera to derive the clues for distinguishing the source cameras while forgery detection checks for inconsist… Show more

“…Confirming the authenticity of the digital image based on criteria like integrity and source is the actual field of concern of DIF. Distinguishing proof of source includes deciding the methods by which the images are taken such as camera, scanner, and regenerative means [4,5]. Likewise the, integrity of the image can be affirmed by examining the image for its alterations basically called as tamper detection.…”

“…The biggest problem with this approach is that different models of digital cameras use components of a small number of manufacturers, and the algorithms used are also very similar between models of the same brand. According to [4] [5] proposes a method to identify the source using the following features: color features, image quality metrics and frequency domain. The study adopted the wavelet transforms as a method to calculate the wavelet domain statistics and use a Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification.…”

“…Hence, for conventional and online media outlets, the capability to detect doctored images before they are published is important to maintain credibility. Recent research efforts in the field of media forensics have begun to address these issues [3], [4], [5].…”
