“…A considerable amount of research has been devoted both to the improvement of established classical methods (12) and more recently to the development of a fundamentally different approach. The newer approach is based on a combination of in vitro organ culture with high resolution liquid chromatography (14), and such an approach led in this laboratory to the discovery of the third natural JH (15 which has now been investigated in chemical detail.…”

“…The newer approach is based on a combination of in vitro organ culture with high resolution liquid chromatography (14), and such an approach led in this laboratory to the discovery of the third natural JH (15 which has now been investigated in chemical detail. From the relatively primitive cockroaches and grasshoppers (12) to the more recently evolved moths, whose metamorphosis is considerably more complicated, the same three hormones appear to be the regulatory molecules.…”

“…Despite this apparent bonanza, even the isolation of nanogram quantities of natural JH from insects is a truly difficult task (13).
