A survey of sensor devices: use in sports biomechanics

Abstract: This paper examines the use of sensor devices in sports biomechanics, focusing on current frequency of use of Electromyography (EMG) device preferences. Researchers in the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS) were invited to participate in an online survey. Responses on multiple sensor devices highlighting frequency of use, device features and improvements researchers sought in acquisition and analysis methods were obtained via an online questionnaire. Results of the investigation showed that… Show more

“…A survey was implemented across different biomechanics research groups across the world to identify opinions and needs regarding current biomechanics sensor devices. The survey was implemented via online to members of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS), and researchers were asked about their main areas of expertise, main features or variables to study, main devices used, and their desires for an optimal measurement device [104]. The study was able to identify the most frequent research area (biomechanics in sports), features (sports and devices (force platform) and unveiled that little research has focused on the simulation and modelling of internal forces.…”

“…Además, el aumento de actividad muscular antagonista puede ocasionar aumento entre las superficies articulares ocasionado asimetrías musculares. Gracias a este análisis puede hacerse intervenciones precisas con el fin de corregir asimetrías musculares para prevenir lesiones, Mejorar el gesto motor, aumento de las cualidades físicas y habilidades en el campo de juego (38)(39)(40)(41)(42)(43)(44).…”

“…The wireless sensor nodes operates on small battery pack, hence the energy depletes at a faster rate due to peer-peer sensors communication and data processing transactions and hop to hop transmission to forward packet to the base station of the network. In accordance, routing protocols aimed at minimizing the energy consumption to ensure long lifespan for these portable sensors under any scalable topology are desirable to improve the application of wireless sensor networks [16]. In this chapter, we are reviewing the performance of existing routing protocols to analyze some of the inherent challenges so that we can propose an enhanced routing protocol.…”
