A Survey of Power Take-off Systems of Ocean Wave Energy Converters

et al.

Abstract: Ocean wave energy conversion as one of the renewable clean energy sources is attracting the research interests of many people. This review introduces different types of power take-off technology of wave energy converters. The main focus is the linear direct drive power take-off devices as they have the advantages for ocean wave energy conversion. The designs and optimizations of power take-off systems of ocean wave energy converters have been studied from reviewing the recently published literature. Also, the … Show more

“…Otros autores [51], [52], también han presentado sistemas PTO de toma mecánica directa que constan de cajas de engranajes con embragues o rodamientos unidireccionales, garantizando tomar un movimiento reciproco u oscilatorio y convertirlo finalmente en un movimiento de rotación en un único sentido de giro el cual es posible acoplar directamente al generador eléctrico.…”

“…1c, the WEC-Sim model consists of body(1), a hydrodynamic body for the float, and three non-hydrodynamic bodies, body (2), body (3), and body(4), corresponding to rods and the frame, respectively. The physical device includes three hinge joints, with each of these joints modelled as revolute joints in WEC-Sim, corresponding to contraint(1), contraint (2), and contraint (3). The WEC-Sim model also includes two fixed joints, one to fix the float to the rod (contraint(4)) and one to fix the frame to the seafloor (contraint(5)).…”

“…Electricity production from ocean waves is a promising technology, attracting significant research and development efforts from numerous organisations since the oil crisis in 1973 [1]. Increased environmental awareness has added to this attention, pushing wave energy conversion technology toward a commercially viable form of renewable energy production [2,3]. A 2010 study calculated the theoretical potential of global ocean energy resources to be 29,500 TWh/yr [4], and the annual electricity production potential of waves off the U.S. coastline states is estimated to be equivalent to about 66% of the U.S. electricity generation in 2017 [5].…”

“…In this modern era, energy is essential for living, and various energy sources have begun to make way for adaptation in these people. Electrical energy is one of the essential elements of energy and has been commonly used for running devices such as technology-based machines [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Thus, the past few years the wave energy has gradationally been brought into a focus.…”

“…The produced electricity is converted using alternates current and direct current (AC/DC) power electronic converters to the grid frequency [13]. The main function of wave dragon is to generate electricity generated through the conversion of the overtopping wave process [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][17][18][19][20]. But some of the energy produced is still lower and does not reach the desired target.…”
