Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a spectroscopic technique that can detect explosives of high chemical specificity and therefore it is very suitable for the landmine detection problem. There are several factors affecting the relation of noise signal ratio with NQR: molecular dynamics of relaxation, interference signals, thermal noise, explosive amount, distance, temperature and the design of the detecting system. Literature has searched ways for solving one or more of these factors, but since not all the work has been focused on landmine detection, many have only been tested in simulation or with data obtained under controlled laboratory conditions, where the detection is not remote (there is no separation between the sample and the detection system). This paper makes a review of the state of art in NQR, analyzing its relevance to the landmine detection problem and concluding about unsolved problems that could be the focus of future research.Keywords: Nuclear quadrupole resonance, landmine detection, explosive detection, landmine, demining. Arab Republic of Egypt suffer from the absence of maps that show spread of landmines locations planted from World War II in the Egyptian western desert -El Alamein region‖ in addition to the lack of funds and the limited use of technology. This paper presents an enhancements of the method of mine detection of previously published research paper in [1], enhancements include a new direct approach for remote sensing based on the concept of metal detectors to expansion of the ground, which are scanned in addition to the accuracy in detection of explosives and the ability to re-check them many times to identify landmines locations. The solution based on integrated technologies by using the wireless communications, cellular technologies, the packet oriented mobile data service and sensor technology to obtain a full control from a safe distance for landmine monitoring team in El Alamein region. GSM sound tracker, GPS tracker, smart cellphones plus advanced applications and RC truck equipment were brought together to do three main tasks for metal landmines, a)Tracing,-b)Detecting,-c)pinpoint coordinates.

Abstract-In this paper, we present a method for detecting antitank or anti-personnel landmines buried in the ground. A set of data generated by a ground penetrating radar is processed to remove the surface reflection and clutter, yielding signals for possible landmines. In order to detect landmines in the signals, features are computed and compared against a database, which contains those of various landmines. Three features are proposed to use; principal components from principal component analysis, Fourier coefficients and singular values from singular value decomposition method, each of which is chosen to represent each landmine uniquely. Detection is performed using Mahalanobis distance-based method. Examples show that the proposed method can effectively detect landmines in various burial condition.
