A survey of IEEE 802.15.4 effective system parameters for wireless body sensor networks

Abstract: SUMMARYWireless body sensor networks are offered to meet the requirements of a diverse set of applications such as health-related and well-being applications. For instance, they are deployed to measure, fetch and collect human body vital signs. Such information could be further used for diagnosis and monitoring of medical conditions. IEEE 802.15.4 is arguably considered as a well-designed standard protocol to address the need for low-rate, low-power and low-cost wireless body sensor networks. Apart from the va… Show more

“…In this study, we considered the default parameters of the ZigBee network layer and the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC and physical layers. Given that the performance of these systems can vary with such parameters [29,30], it would be interesting to study whether the results reported here could be improved by optimizing such parameters.…”

“…The LRWPANs is used in many applications and many fields such as agriculture, environment monitoring, security purposes, military, sports ( [6], [7]) as well as entertainments [8]. In healthcare fields [9], the technology of IEEE 802.15.4 is so used in order to supervise the humans parameters [10] like the cardiac patients monitoring [11].…”

“…2 Nano-network motivated by MC may achieve better performance than traditional wireless sensor network considering the serious fading of electromagnetic wave in intra-body environment. 3,4 Among various proposed mechanisms of MC in literatures, this paper focuses on diffusion-based MC as it represents a general biological architecture of MC in nature and widely investigated background in academia. In diffusion-based MC, molecules are emitted by the transmitter, propagate in the medium via diffusion, and eventually reach the receiver.…”
