A Survey of Electromagnetic Influence on UAVs from an EHV Power Converter Stations and Possible Countermeasures

Abstract: It is inevitable that high-intensity, wide-spectrum electromagnetic emissions are generated by the power electronic equipment of the Extra High Voltage (EHV) power converter station. The surveillance flight of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is thus, situated in a complex electromagnetic environment. The ubiquitous electromagnetic interference demands higher electromagnetic protection requirements from the UAV construction and operation. This article is related to the UAVs patrol inspections of the power line … Show more

“…There are several challenges in implementing an autonomous network security system for UAVs in smart cities. UAVs operate in the same frequency bands as other communication systems, which can lead to interference and disruption of normal operations ( Li et al, 2021 ). As UAV usage grows, the communication system must be able to handle increasing numbers of devices and provide adequate coverage to accommodate changing traffic patterns.…”

“…e book [18] details the aspects of countering a huge range of civil and military UAVs and their respective system components. e article [19] analyzes the EMI characteristics of the converter station equipment in the surrounding area and the EMI impact on the UAV communication circuits. e anti-EMI countermeasures strive to eliminate or reduce the EMI threats on the UAV hardware and its communication network.…”

“…In the actual application of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) patrol inspection in the transmission line, many manipulators need to manually control UAVs to arrive at the operation site and perform patrol inspection tasks. However, the manipulator's control level directly determines whether the inspection quality meets the standard, and the operation efficiency, operation quality and operation frequency are difficult to meet the construction needs of the power grid in the Internet of things [18,19].…”
