Abstract. With the rapid development of web service technology, next generations of web service applications need to be able to predict problems, such as potential degradation scenarios, future erroneous behaviors and deviations from expected behaviors, and move towards resolving those problems not just reactively, but even proactively, i.e., before the problems occur. Service oriented applications are thus driven by the requirements that bring the concepts of decentralization, dynamism, adaptation, and automation to an extreme. In this paper, an approach is proposed that depends mainly on the concept of proactive adaptation by the use of reinforcement learning to achieve an autonomous dynamic behavior of web service composition considering potential degradation and emergence in QoS values. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach in dynamic web service composition environments.

Abstract. We ease the design of collaborative business processes respecting desired business goals by the composition algorithm presented in this paper. The composition of multiple parties' business processes is always done with a specific objective in mind. Not only in the positive case, but also if the objective of a business process can not be fulfilled, all participating business processes need to be in some expected recovery state. We propose a composition algorithm solving the task of designing a collaborative business process while respecting a set of primary and recovery goals. In our model, each business process is described as a finite state machine. The multiplication of all business processes in one single model of possible executions would lead to an explosion of the number of states. Therefore, our composition algorithm directly interprets the multiple finite state machine (FSM) representations and creates a collaborative business process without integrating all FSMs into one single FSM upfront. Our composition algorithm returns an orchestration of the given business processes only in the case that it can be assured that each execution only leads to an expected primary or recovery goal. In order to prove our concepts, we first mathematically define the execution of business processes and orchestrations by providing abstract state machine (ASM) representations for them. Second, we execute the ASMs in the execution engine CoreASM which shows that the generated orchestration steers the execution of the business processes as intended.

Abstract. In this paper we propose a constraint based declarative approach for Web services composition and monitoring problem. Our approach allows user to build the abstract composition by identifying the participating entities and by providing a set of constraints that mark the boundary of the solution. Different types of constraints have been proposed to handle the composition modeling and monitoring. Abstract composition is then used for instantiating the concrete composition, which both finds and executes an instantiation respecting constraints, and also handles the process run-time monitoring. When compared to the traditional approaches, our approach is declarative and allows for the same set of constraints to be used for composition modeling and monitoring and thus allows for refining the abstract composition as a result of run-time violations, such as service failure or response time delays.
