A Suction Thrombectomy Technique: A Rapid and Effective Method for Intra-Arterial Thrombolysis

Abstract: ObjectiveDuring mechanical thrombolysis, to reduce procedure-related complications and time, the authors have performed a simple suction thrombectomy technique. In this article, the authors describe the technical details and clinical outcomes of this technique.Materials and MethodsFrom January 2013 to December 2013, 14 consecutive acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with large cerebral arterial occlusions in the middle cerebral artery (MCA; n = 7), internal cerebral artery (ICA; n = 5), basilar artery (BA; n … Show more

“…Besides, many operators prefer a trial of direct clot aspiration and if necessary, continue with stent retrievers in both anterior and posterior circulation acute stroke treatments. 3) 6) Such a combination invariably necessitates a DAC and is feasible for dual thrombectomy with the materials and technique described. Dual thrombecomy may be used as a potentially life-saving procedure in the posterior circulation when basilar thrombectomy with aspiration thrombectomy or conventional single-device mechanical thrombectomy fails.…”

“…The one or more buddy wire technique often uses as a track and helps advance of the balloon or the stent towards the target lesion [5,6]. Likewise, the use of microcatheter may significantly facilitate the success and efficiency of chronic total occlusion PCI and intracranial endovascular stroke and aneurysms treatment [7][8][9]. In our report, firstly the buddy wire technique was planned.…”
