A Successfully Treated Case of Strangulated Intestinal Obstruction Caused by the Left Urter after Radical Hysterectomy for Uterus Cancer

Abstract

A 50-year-old woman underwent radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection for uterus cancer 1 month previous. She complained of frequent vomiting and abdominal cramps after taking dinner and was diagnosed with mechanical intestinal obstruction. After 3 days of conservative treatment, computed tomography revealed a strangulated intestinal obstruction. On emergent laparotomy, localized dilated ileum was incarcerated with strangulation between the left ureter and left iliac vessels. After successful manual relief of the strangulation of the ileum, the sigmoid colon and ileocecum were attached by sutures to the pelvic sacral fascia to prevent recurrence of the incarceration. We report this rare case of strangulated intestinal obstruction caused by the ureter after radical hysterectomy with a review of the literature.
