A sub-multiplex function for providing the mobile multimedia service

Abstract

The recent interest of mobile communication is trending voice service to various mobile data service. IS-95, IS-95A, IS-95B specifications of TIA/EIA provide the multimedia service by a multiplex layer: Howevel; the present specifications just supports the multimedia service with multiconnection by the multicall, cannot support with multiconnection by a single call. Thus, in order to provide the multimedia service with multiconnection by a single call that may be demanded latec there is inconvenience that must add special protocols each multimedia services.This paper proposes a sub-multiplex layer that supports the multimedia service by a single call requiring the multiconnection. This sub-multiplex layer is activated by the indication ofan application program and at this time an existing multiplex option is maintained. And the sub-multiplex layer multiplexes voice and mobile data, upper the multiplex layer: Thus the voice and the mobile data are transmitted through single voice path which was already set up. This function can provide the mobile multimedia service by a single call, is compatible with the existing network model.
