A STUDY ON THE POSITIONING OF THE SEA VIEWED IN CONSIDERATION OF CHANGES IN THE JAPANESE PARK PLANNING SYSTEM AND MEASURES FOR UTILIZING THE SEA : The Tokyo metropolitan area taken up as a research target

Abstract

When the current state ofthe SHIN −SUI space ( space f ( 〕r familiarity with water )in the waterfront areas in Japan is seen ， it is rather dif 登cult to say that characteristics of the ocean are sufficiently utilized ， because fbuntains and watersplashing ponds ， namely space arrangements that ean be effective even in non − waterfront areas ， are fc ) rmed ． In this research ， therefore ， we take note of the Japanese Park P且 anning System − abase fbr improvements of Japanese parks − to propose desirable methods 長 ｝r improving parks through utilization of the ocean in a way not seen in places other than the waterfront area ， We wiil also clarify changes in the role ofwaterfront areas ． Based on the results of such efforts ， further ， tasks for improv血 g the present Park Planning System in a way limited to the waterfront area through the use of oceanic characteristic8 will be revealed ．
