A study on the effect of colloidal silica in peptising iron oxide with reference to red brown soil formation on limestone

Abstract: Colloidal silica will peptise Fe2O3 in alkaline media containing Na ions, but Ca ions cause flocculation of the silica and no peptisation of Fe2O2 occurs. It is concluded that the theory of Reifenberg on the formation of terra rossa on limestone is untenable.
