A Study on the Affordance of Façade design in Domestic Five-star Hotels

Abstract

The purpose of thi s study i s to anal yze affordance of façade desi gn by extracti ng anal ysi s el ements of affordance i n façade desi gn domesti c fi ve-star hotel s. The subj ects of thi s study were 88 domesti c fi ve-star hotel s; we sel ected l i terature revi ew and case study as methodol ogy. The anal ysi s el ements i ncl uded mass forms, exteri or col ors, wi ndow frame patterns, exteri or characteri sti cs, and door types based on the vi sual percepti on factors of façade desi gn from the concept of affordance. The resul ts of the study were as fol l ows. Fi rst, the mass forms were di vi ded i nto stackabl e, i ntegral , and connecti on types, and stackabl e type was most frequent. Second, exteri or col ors were di vi ded i nto achromati c, red, yel l ow, and opaque col or parts, and the achromati c parts were most frequent. Thi rd, the wi ndow frame patterns were di vi ded i nto gri d, i rregul ar, ful l , hori zontal , and verti cal wi ndows, and gri d wi ndows were most frequent. Fourth, the exteri or characteri sti cs were di vi ded i nto formati ve mass, hori zontal parti ti on, desi gn contrast, ti l ed roof, and faci l i ty connecti on, and the formati ve mass was most frequent. Fi fth, the door types were di vi ded i nto porch, pi l oti , and wal l type, and porch was most frequent. The resul ts of thi s study showed that the façade desi gn el ements such as mass forms, exteri or col ors, wi ndow frame patterns, exteri or characteri sti cs, and door types i ntenti onal l y contai ned affordance.
