A Study on Sway-Rocking Models Considering Vibration Characteristics of Surface Strata

Abstract

So − caHed ex ［ ended sway − rocking model is frequently used in the design of embedded massive stmctures ． When stmctures are embedded in soft surface laycrs ， the model is apt to give larger shear force in the under − ground parts thap the finite element method ． In this paper， the authors have made clear through numerical survey using simplifiecl moclels that this Iendency can be a 比ribuled to the pGor estimation of side wa ］ 1 impeCl − ance employed in the ordinary mode ］ ． The au ｛ hors have also proposed two modified mOdels to evaluate thc side wall impedance， and proved 山 飢 the two models give more reasonable results than the ordinary sway − rocking model when foundations are embedded in soft surface strata ． Keywords ： seil ・ ∫' 厂uct " re interaction ， sway − rocking model ， e 〃 Tbedment ， elastic stratu 〃1， 厂esponse analysis
