“…Averaged over 3 years, fruit width was determined between 35.8 and 48.4 mm. These values are similar to the results of other studies carried out on the same cultivars (Kaşka et al 1990;Aksoy et al 1992;Çalişkan 2003) and local figs (Koyuncu et al 1998;Koyuncu 2004) but lower than those of Bostan et al (1998) and Polat & Özkaya (2005). Fruit index (width/length) is of great importance in packing and transportation.…”

“…Fruit length of the cultivars studied was determined to be between 36.2 and 48.3 mm. Our results concerning fruit length are similar to the results obtained from the same cultivars (Kaşka et al 1990;Çalişkan 2003) and local figs (Özeker & İsfandiyaroğlu 1998) but lower than those of Aksoy et al (1992), Bostan et al (1998), Koyuncu et al (1998), and Polat & Özkaya (2005). In our study, fruit neck length values ranged from 3.1 to 7.2 mm (Table 2).These results are in agreement with the findings of previous reports (Özeker & İsfandiyaroğlu 1998;Çalişkan 2003;Polat & Özkaya 2005) but lower than those of Ilgin & Küden (1997) and Aksoy et al (2003a).…”

“…The varieties grown in California had similar fruit length (41-63.5 mm) to varieties from Turkey (38.5-62.0 mm), but were smaller in fruit diameter (35.6-48.4 mm versus 45.0-55.0 mm) (Bostan et al , 1998). Soluble solids concentrations of these varieties grown in California (13%-31%), though with more extreme values, were in general comparable to the Turkish varieties (15.1%-21% (Bostan et al , 1998), 16%-27% (Özeker and Isfendiyaroglu, 1998), and 20.1%-27.4% (Çalişkan and Polat, 2008)).…”

“…In a study of ten fi g varieties (152-4s, 'Brown Turkey', 'Kadota', 'Mission', 'Orphan', 'Panachee', UCR 276-14, UCR 291, 'White Texas Everbearing' and 'Zidi') grown under California conditions, fi g weight (20-60 g) was comparable to that of Turkish varieties (22-52 g (Çalişkan and Polat, 2008), 40-65 g (Bostan et al , 1998), and 30-90 g (Özeker and Isfendiyaroglu, 1998)). The varieties grown in California had similar fruit length (41-63.5 mm) to varieties from Turkey (38.5-62.0 mm), but were smaller in fruit diameter (35.6-48.4 mm versus 45.0-55.0 mm) (Bostan et al , 1998).…”
