The social perceptions of young children’s use of smart devices in South Korea: Evidence from big data methodologies

The study explored the social perceptions of young children’s use of smart devices in South Korea using big data methodologies. Big data methodologies allowed to uncover underlying thoughts and feelings about young children’s use of smart devices that had not been discovered in existing studies. The study extracted raw data from three different groups: the public, the journalist, and academia. Then, the study conducted keyword frequency, sentiment analysis, and CONCOR analysis with UCINET 6.0. The results of the study revealed that each group viewed young children’s use of smart devices in a different way. The public was interested in effective use of smart devices while the journalist focused on educational aspects. The academia focused on parents’ perception of smart devices from a developmental perspective. Regarding the results of sentiment analysis, they showed that each group had different opinion on young children’s use of smart devices. The public had an ambivalent attitude toward young children’s use of smart devices. While the journalist showed a positively inclined attitude, the academic had a negatively inclined attitude.

Objectives: The purpose is to study how the perception of home training has changed through data comparison before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, to find out the changes in people’s perception of home training, which has become a new sports culture, to provide basic data and to suggest directions on how research using big data can be used in the sports field.Methods: In order to compare before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, text mining analysis was conducted by setting keywords as home training in Naver and Daum by setting from February 1, 2020 to November 30, 2020, when the first COVID-19 confirmed patient in Korea came out, and from February 1, 2019, to November 30, 2019.Results: As a result of CONCOR analysis between words related to home training, a total of 16 clusters were formed, eight each, including smart home training, YouTube, and health programs before COVID-19, and eight each, including smart home training, YouTube, and home training exercise equipment and types.Conclusions: This study can be used as a tool to understand the market status, trends, and directions of interest by grasping the public’s perception and status of home training.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to understand the current market trend for golf apparel rental services and to present basic data to revitalize the golf apparel rental service market and prepare continuous growth plans. METHODS The following keywords were selected for data collection: "golf wear + rental (렌탈)," "golf wear + rental (대여)," "golf apparel + rental (렌탈)," and "golf apparel + rental (대여).“ The analysis period was limited to two years and seven months from January 1, 2020 to July 31, 2022, when COVID-19 began. The analysis was focused on the top 60 keywords to simplify the network. RESULTS Various keywords were extracted through text mining, TF-IDF, connection centrality, emotional analysis, and semantic network analysis of big data analysis. These were then categorized into four factors: “golf apparel rental service,” “self-expression and authentication,” “sharing economy,” and “emotion.” CONCLUSIONS The results of this study show that young golfers are unreluctant and are generally positive in renting golf apparel. Therefore, if the growing paradigm of the consumption behavior of MZ-generation golfers is recognized and analyzed and the requirements are continuously satisfied through various strategies, there will be a higher possibility to help expand the golf apparel rental market.
