A Study on Library 3.0 Concept and its Service Model

Abstract: Recently the concept of Library 3.0 and its substance have been discussed by scholars and specialists along with Web 3.0. This study aims to analyze the debates on Library 3.0 and review the concept of Library 3.0. In addition, this study proposes library 3.0 service model based on its analysis. The keywords of in the proposed Library 3.0 model in this study is the Social Semantic Digital Library(SSDL), the Linked Library, and the Mobile Library. First, the SSDL means a real knowledge sharing and cooperation b… Show more

“…Besides this, as an environmental comfort service, temperature, humidity, and lighting can be adjusted for different users, books, and equipment (Song et al, 2008;Noh, 2010). However, it seems that there have not been adequate research on context aware services available in the library, and it is necessary to conduct more study into applying context aware systems to libraries before a broadly applicable system and guidelines thereof can be put in place.…”

“…Library 3.0 or 4.0 will not only reflect the changing nature of the web as described above, but it will also feature new attributes based on the uniqueness of libraries. Noh (2010) said Library 3.0 will combine the concepts of a social semantic digital library, linked library, and mobile library, while Kruk, Decker, et al (2007), Kruk, Woroniecki, Gzella, Dabrowski, & McDaniel (2007) and Alotaibi (2010) emphasize the social semantic library as a 3.0 library. In light of the services presently provided by libraries, we are already living in the era of Library 3.0, and it seems appropriate to begin a discussion of Library 4.0.…”

“…In fact, there is no consensus on the actual definition of Li-brary3.0. Build on the Library3.0 generation evolution graphical representation by Noh (2012) [34], this paper is trying to elaborate the technology available in the market for library in Figure 1, followed by a more detail explanations in Table 3.…”

“…These next‐generation digital libraries apply new concepts such as semantic retrieval, real‐time web, cloud computing, mobile web, Linked Data, and context‐awareness (Noh, 2012). These libraries' information resources are structured based on ontology, connected with worldwide library resources, allow for the possibility of semantic search, and realize the complete mobile library.…”
