A study on functional and radiological outcome after corrective osteotomy and volar locked plate fixation for extra-articular malunion of distal radius

Abstract: Aim and Objective: Lower lumbar burst fractures are rare entity with most of the literature restricted to small case series. There is no clear cut consensus on the guidelines for management. Here we present functional results of different modalities of treatment of this rare type of spine injury. Material and Methods: The study was conducted at two tertiary care centres over a period of 9 years. Patients with lower lumbar burst fractures were evaluated for associated injuries, modality of treatment, Pain score… Show more

“…As per literature, malunion is the most common complication following distal radius fractures occurring approximately in 23% of non-surgically treated injuries and in 11% of operatively-treated fractures. 3,4,5 Common cause being fall on outstretched hand with a history of high velocity injuries among younger age group, while elderly age group, especially postmenopausal women sustain it due to trivial fall. 6 Conservative management of distal radius fractures by poor technique or by avoiding early consultation or by quacks applying native bandages is the usual cause of malunion in Indian subcontinent.…”
