Abstract:This study of the velocity of sound in air involves the use of the magnetostriction oscillator in an experiment similar to those of G. W. Pierce and others, who used piezoelectric crystals as sources of sound. The wave system generated by the source is investigated by observing the reactions of the source when the sound waves are reflected back upon it from a moveable reflector. The range of frequencies used extends from 20,000 to 70,000. The irregularities of the wave system near the source are studied in som… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
