“…In this case, the radon aerial and mass exhalation rates, E A and E M , can be calculated from the following equations (Abu-Jarad, 1988;Khan et al, 1992;Maged and Borham, 1997;Sharma et al, 2003):…”

“…There are many factors that affect the exhalation rate from a surface, e.g., atmospheric pressure, rainfall, humidity and temperature. It is well known that the most important source of external and internal exposure in building materials of dwellings is caused by gamma-rays and alpha-particles emitted from radionuclides of the uranium ( 238 U) and thorium ( 232 Th) decay series as well as from 40 K (Maged and Borham 1997;Zaidi et al 1999;Farai and Ademola 2005;Ademola 2008). Radon and thoron are both generated from radium isotopes decay in the solid grains.…”

“…During the last few decades, radon physics has been extended to the use of radon as a tool for uranium or radium exploration in mines and building materials, in addition to soil and water (Miles, 1992;Clarke, 1995;Maged and Borham, 1997;Dixon, 1999;Howarth and Miles, 2000;Al-Jarallah, 2001;Mustapha et al, 2002;Surinder et al, 2002). Thus, in our previous work (Saad et al, 2003), we introduced a new method for determining the uranium content of phosphate ores by using a passive radon dosimeter based on CR-39 nuclear track detector (NTD) on-line with an Alpha GUARD radon gas analyzer.…”
