A study of the phase transition in ammonium persulphate

Abstract: Some electrical parameters are investigated as a function of temperature (40 °C < T < 120 °C) for single crystals and compressed powder samples of ammonium persulphate (APS), (NH4)2S2O8. The results indicate that APS undergoes a structural phase transition in the vicinity of 90 °C. The DTA thermogram is carried out in the same temperature range as a final confirmation of the observed phase transition. The data are correlated to the reorientational motion of the NH+4 and/or SO−−4 ions as well as the change in t… Show more

“…33−35 was selected for further research due to its relatively higher thermal stability and solubility (Table 1, entries 5 and 6). 36,37 Subsequently, different transition metals were employed to activate the persulfate salt. The significant improvements were observed using Fe, Cu, and Pd (Table 1, entries 8−10, entries 13 and 14) in comparison with the results without metal activation (entry 2).…”

“…The latter will result in the formation of hydrogen bond of the type O-H... O. The change in hydrogen bonding scheme is the primary cause of the phase transition in some sulphate and/or persulphate compounds [18,13]. For the two compounds the common group is the SO4 group.…”

“…In the previous work we investigated the phase transition in ammonium persulphate, (NH4)2S2O8 [13]. The persulphate group, S2O8, consists of two sulphate ;groups (2SO4).…”

“…In this paper we report on the electrical conductivity and dielectric constant (relative permittivity) ~ as function of temperature for the two oxalate compounds AOX and POX. Also our study was extended to the thermal properties, mainly the DTA, DSC and TGA thermograms from 300 K up to 520 K. The present study is part of our research programme into the phase transitions and/or the change in the conduction mechanism in some inorganic and/or organic compounds [14][15][16][17][18][19].…”
