A Study of thens0np61SStates in the Rare Gas Ions

Abstract: A study of the ns0np6 1S0 states in the rare gas ions is described. A large cross section for the production of two vacancies in the ns shell in certain ion-atom collisions is used to settle the dispute over the identifications of the ns0np6 states in Auger spectroscopy. The identifications due to McGuire of the 3s03p6 1S0 and 4s04p6 1S0 states in Ar III and Kr III, respectively, are confirmed. Optical spectroscopy is used to obtain accurate values for the energies of these levels. The large cross sections for… Show more

“…Experimental results thus achieved were furthermore compared with the results of MCDF calculations. The energy levels of Ar III are given by Moore [33], Fawcett et al [34], Agentoft et al [35], and Hansen and Persson [36]. In their work, Hansen and Persson identified for the L 2,3 -M 1 M 1 spectrum only the diagram line 1 S 0 and the satellite line 3s 2 3p 3 ( 2 P)4p( 1 S 0 ).…”

“…In 1975 Marling [ 4 ] identified three singlet-singlet transitions between levels of 3 s 2 3 p 3 4 p and 3 s 2 3 p 3 (3 d and 4 s ). Agentoft et al [ 5 ] confirmed in 1984 an identification of the 3 s 0 3 p 6 1 S 0 by McGuire [ 6 ].…”

“…A new report about Br II was presented in the work of Bhupala Rao (1958). The radial integrals determined from least-squares adjustments to the ground and first excited configurations of Kr III are compared to Hartree-Fock results in the work of Hansen and Persson (1974), and a study of the doubly excited 4p 6 configuration was reported by Agentoft et al (1984). Subsequent to this, a revised and extended analysis of the low configurations in Kr III was presented in the work of Bredice et al (1988), but this study did not include parametric fitting for the studied configurations.…”
