It is crucial to explore the impact of digital financial inclusion on tourism for national economic development. This paper utilizes panel data from 256 prefecture-level cities in China between 2011 and 2019 to examine the influence of digital financial inclusion on tourism. The findings demonstrate that digital financial inclusion significantly contributes to the development of the tourism industry. Notably, its coverage breadth, depth of use, and level of digitalization also have positive effects. Mechanism analysis reveals that digital financial inclusion facilitates the growth of tourism by supporting the development of tourism enterprises and enhancing consumer spending. Heterogeneity analysis further reveals regional and urban disparities in the promotion of digital financial inclusion, with the effect being more pronounced in the eastern region and larger cities. In comparison to existing studies, this paper delves into the mechanisms through which digital financial inclusion impacts tourism, as well as investigates regional and city size discrepancies. Consequently, governments should strive to foster the development of digital financial inclusion to attract market players and promote the advancement of residents’ consumption, thereby bolstering tourism development.

Rural tourism serves as a crucial means for fostering rural economic prosperity and inheriting rural culture. The assessment of the quality of rural tourism development and the identification of disparities in rural tourism development among regions have become focal points in current research. This paper utilizes tourism big data to establish a system for evaluating rural tourism popularity and proposes a method for identifying rural tourism hotspots. The study explores the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and formation mechanisms of the cold and hot patterns of rural tourism in China during two periods (pre-pandemic and post-pandemic) and on two spatial scales (provincial and municipal levels). The research findings indicate that (1) the annual variation in rural tourism popularity exhibits a fluctuating upward trend, with significant seasonal variations on a monthly basis. (2) The spatial pattern of rural tourism popularity changes with the scale effect. At the provincial level, hotspot areas form an east–west dual-core pattern, while at the municipal level, hotspot areas demonstrate an evolution from a three-core to a four-core pattern. In the post-pandemic era, rural tourism popularity in the northwest and southwest regions is experiencing a counter-trend growth. (3) At different spatiotemporal scales, influencing factors and their impact intensities vary. At the provincial level, road density and reception capacity consistently play dominant roles, and per capita disposable income significantly influences early-stage popularity enhancement. At the municipal level, resident population and tourism resources influence are the dominant factors, and the influence of air quality and regional media attention gradually strengthens. This article provides a new perspective on quantitative research in rural tourism, offering significant guidance for the rational allocation of resources in rural tourism, regional tourism collaboration, and the sustainable development of rural tourism in the post-pandemic era.

As a national strategy, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) and the ecological protection and high-quality development (HQD) of the Yellow River Basin (YRB) are of great significance for promoting the HQD of the regional economy. Based on the panel data in the YRB and the YREB from 2006 to 2019, this paper constructed an evaluation index system of HQD with five dimensions of “innovation development, coordination development, green development, openness development, and sharing development”, and we used the entropy weight method, kernel density method, and Tobit panel model to analyze the differences in the HQD and the similarities and differences of the influencing factors between the two regions. The research findings were as follows: (1) The HQD of the YRB and the YREB was consistent with the national trend, showing a fluctuating upward trend. The HQD of the YRB was always lower than that of the YREB. The kernel density curves in both regions had a rightward trailing pattern, with polarization and unbalanced development. (2) From the perspective of the spatial distribution pattern, the HQD of the YRB presented a spatial distribution characteristic of “high at both ends and low in the middle”. In contrast, the HQD of the YREB maintained the characteristic of “high in the east and low in the west”. (3) The level of human capital, the level of foreign direct investment, and the economic scale played a significant positive role in improving the HQD of the YRB. The level of human capital, urbanization, foreign direct investment, and economic scale significantly improved the HQD of the YREB.
