A study of the effect of aerosols on surface ozone through meteorology feedbacks over China

Abstract: Abstract. Interactions between aerosols and gases in the atmosphere have been the focus of an increasing number of studies in recent years. Here, we focus on aerosol effects on tropospheric ozone that involve meteorological feedbacks induced by aerosol–radiation interactions. Specifically, we study the effects that involve aerosol influences on the transport of gaseous pollutants and on atmospheric moisture, both of which can impact ozone chemistry. For this purpose, we use the UK Earth System Model (UKESM1), … Show more

“…This study derived optimized NO X emissions based on the TROPOMI/WRF-Chem relative difference using a mass balance approach. The pollutant distribution from TROPOMI is significantly impacted by meteorological conditions [66][67][68]. Thereby, the accuracy of this assimilated method (top-down emissions) decreases when strong transport on NO 2 occur.…”

“…For example, SSRD can reflect the intensity of sunlight, which affects the photochemical reaction of O 3 precursor pollutants [ 35 ]. BLH affects the diffusion space of pollutants in a vertical direction [ 36 ]. Wind usually disperses concentrations from the emission sources [ 37 ].…”

“…Ozone (O 3 ) and haze episodes are two emerging and connected challenges in China (Li et al 2019, Qu et al 2021, Zhao et al 2022. Since 2013, stringent air pollution control named 'Clean Air Actions' has been implemented by Chinese government to solve the air quality problem.…”
