Background and Aim: The main goal of nursing is to promote the value of human beings and the dignity of all those who need care. Nursing should not only include scientific knowledge and technical skills, but also a professionin which professional values are acknowledged. The aim of this study was to determine the professional values from the viewpoint of nursing students in Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: In this descriptiveanalytical study, 120 students of Jahrom Nursing and Midwifery Faculty were selected through census sampling. A two-part questionnaire was used to assess the students’ viewpoints toward professional values: Part I: Social-demographic characteristics and Part Two: Nurses professional values scale - Revised survey tool, which consists of 26 items from professional ethics codes of the American Nursing Association and includes the following items: care (9 items), activity (5 items), trust (5 items), professionalization (4 items) and justice (3 items). The options are expressed on the basis of a five-option Likert scale, so that the option with the least importance gets score 1 and the option with the most importance gets the score 5. The range of grades will be from 26 to 130, and a higher score indicates that they are more familiar with professional values. Results: 120 nursing students participated in the present study. Mean scores of dimensions of care, pragmatism, trust, professionalism, and justice were 3.50, 3.20, 3.65, 3.45, and 3.75, respectively. Maintaining competency in the clinical setting (dimension of trust) was the most important componentand activities in professional nursing and research affairs associations (pragmatic dimension). Conclusion: In order to promote the professional development and transformation of today’s students into future capable nurses, it is imperative to develop planning and teaching methods tailored to the existing conditions and facilities, as well as to consider areas of strength and weakness in the area of professional value. Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is a cost-effective solution in taking care of pre-term low birth weight neonates not only in developing countries with scarce resources, but also in developed countries with easy accessibility to technological advances like incubators. It provides an easy solution where the mother herself acts as an incubator and keeps the baby close to her in skinto- skin contact, and provides the baby the warmth, food, shelter and love that the baby needs to ensure its survival.In this paper we described the successful management of a preterm baby born at 29th gestational weeks weighing only 980 gm in a rural setting without any incubator and other technological equipment. The baby was in a critical condition since birth and despite adequate medical therapy she remained hypothermic. The KMC was initiated to keep her warm and marked improvements were noticed in the baby. The baby was discharged at day-14 with a body weight of 1100gm. Baby was in regular follow up and subsequently at 2-months 24days,she reached a desired body weight of 2100gm with improvement in feeding, movement and vital signs.It is concluded that, in a limited resource setting, KMC can act as a very effective measure in preventing neonatal morbidity by adequate heat regulation, exclusive breastfeeding and promoting early discharge from hospital. Background Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a major depressive disorder that mainly begins within one month after delivery. The present study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and the occurrence of high PPD symptoms in women participating in the initial phase of the Maternal and Child Health cohort study, Yazd, Iran. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out in the years 2017–2019 included 1028 women after childbirth The Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) were study tools. The EPDS questionnaire was used to measure postpartum depression symptoms and a cut-off score of 13 was considered to indicate high PPD symptoms. The baseline data related to dietary intake was collected at the beginning of the study at the first visit after pregnancy diagnosis and the data related to depression, were collected in the second month after delivery. Dietary patterns were extracted by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Frequency (percentage) and mean (SD) were used for description. Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, independent sample t-test, and multiple logistic regression (MLR) were used for data analysis. Results The incidence of high PPD symptoms was 24%. Four posterior patterns were extracted including prudent pattern, sweet and dessert pattern, junk food pattern and western pattern. A high adherence to the western pattern was associated with a higher risk of high PPD symptoms than a low adherence (ORT3/T1: 2.67; p < 0.001). A high adherence to the Prudent pattern was associated with a lower risk of high PPD symptoms than a low adherence (ORT3/T1: 0.55; p = 0.001). There are not any significant association between sweet and dessert and junk food patterns and high PPD symptoms risk (p > 0.05). Conclusion High adherence to prudent patterns was characterized by high intake of vegetables, fruit and juice, nuts and beans, low-fat dairy products, liquid oil, olive, eggs, fish, whole grains had a protective effect against high PPD symptoms, but the effect of western pattern was characterized by high intake of red and processed meats and organs was reverse. Therefore, it is suggested that health care providers have a particular emphasis on the healthy food patterns such as the prudent pattern.
