A study of particles penetration in sieving process on a linear vibration screen

Abstract: This paper presented an investigation of particle collision and penetration using the discrete element method to understand the motion of particles and improve theoretical treatment in the sieving process. The process progressively was divided into looseness, stratification, collision, and penetration. Particle penetration has a direct effect on the screening performance. The penetration probability was defined, and the mathematical relationships between particle penetration and vibration parameters were estab… Show more

“…Obviously, screen's simple harmonic motion along the vibration direction leads to where A x and a x are the vibration amplitude and phase offset in the x direction, respectively, and A y and a y are the vibration amplitude and phase offset in the y direction, respectively. Substituting Equations (2) and 3in Equations (4) and (5) leads to…”

“…Owing to the fact that linear vibrating screens have constant transport velocity and throw index, which are very likely to bring about poor separation, changing throw index for a high screening performance was discussed [1,2]. Meanwhile, better understanding of screening processes is critical in optimizing vibrating parameters.…”

“…However, the motion of particles on the screen surface can be increased by properly improving the amplitude in the horizontal direction, 19 which is more conducive to segregation of particles in the screening process. 20,21 Furthermore, from the perspective of engineering projects, high cost of disc spring will greatly increase the total price of vibration screen. 22 It brings challenges to mass production of disc spring vibration screen.…”

“…Sieving is a technique for separating particles of different sizes. It is widely used in many granular media industries such as the construction, mineral separation, medicine and food fields [1][2][3]. When small particles penetrate the plate under suitable vibration source, other particles run to outlet indicating that the screening process finished.…”
