A Study of Heat Transfer on Front and Back Vented Brake Disc Effect on Vibration

Abstract: Abstract. The purpose of this study was to investigate the vibration characteristics of both front and back vented brake discs with physically different shapes. In accordance with theory, the heat transfer rates of the two types of brake disc were different and played an important role in deformation during usage. A dynamometer was used as an engineering tool for the experimental work, with boundary conditions according to the Japanese Automobile Standard JASO C406. One degree of freedom (DOF) acceleration sig… Show more

“…This physical action of the brake disc/drum causes heat conduction to the adjacent braking system components, as referred to in Ref. [1]. Kumar and Vinodh [2] used the finite element method for both static structural and transient thermal analysis while proposing a new automotive brake rotor design and compared it with a ventilated disc brake rotor.…”

“…Thus, there is a correspondence with the theories related to heat transfer. According to Lakkam et al [40], a surface temperature of at least 300 • C on the disc brake increases with the pressure applied during the braking process at a speed of 80 Km/h, and changes with the operational conditions of the automobile such as weight, speed, tire and roadway conditions.…”

“…The calculations developed at 80 km/h do not generate enough heat on the braking area for the radiation to act. This also depends on the material properties of the disc brake [39,40].…”

“…É possível computar a queda de pressão do canal escrevendo o balanço de energia. Em seguida partiremos primeiramente para a análise teórica da convecção forçada, [4] temos que nosso disco em estudo é um "front-vented disc brake", conforme a figura abaixo [30]: Outros parâmetros importantes a serem reescritos são a distribuição de frenagem na dianteira ( ) que é de 70% e o fator de dissipação de calor no disco de freio ( ) adotado é…”
