A study of genes involved in adipocyte differentiation

Abstract: A variety of genes were discovered and validated with RT-PCR at the late phase of adipocyte differentiation. This may help us better understand the onset of obesity and the potential role of adipocytes in other organs.

“…The effect of ANGPTL4 on adipose tissue accretion would later be reinforced by the synthesis of other cytokines such as VEGF, whose concentration we found to increase in the last trimester of pregnancy. These results are in accordance with other studies reporting that ANGPTL4 expression is significantly upregulated in obesity, in the early 18 and the later phases of adipocyte differentiation 19 , 37 , and also in adipose tissue cells from subjects with obesity 21 , 36 .…”

“…The gene of LYRM1 is highly expressed in omental adipose tissue of obese individuals and is an obesity-related gene involved in adipocyte differentiation and growth [ 7 , 68 , 69 ]. The overexpression of LYRM1 in mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes resulted in reduced insulin-stimulated uptake of glucose and impaired mitochondrial function [ 70 ].…”

“…The encoded protein is known to be induced by peroxisome proliferation activators and functions as a hormone that regulates glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. Its expression is strongly induced during adipocyte as well as sebocyte differentiation [1921], supporting it’s up-regulation during meibocyte differentiation. Secondly, PLIN2 encodes a protein that is associated with surface membrane of lipid droplet, and has been shown to be involved in the development and maintenance of adipose tissue.…”
