A Study of External Nasal Splints used in Nasal Bone Fractures and Rhinoplasties

Abstract: Background/Objectives: Plaster of Paris (POP), thermoplastic splints and self-adhesive padded aluminium splints are the most common splinting methods used after reduction of fractured nasal bones and rhinoplasty. All these methods have their proponents but may have one or more disadvantages in the way of being cumbersome, time-consuming, bulky, conspicuous and expensive.

“…It has been found to be a very simple and effective material as it takes the contour of the nasal bridge and nasal cartilages and gives excellent stability. 15,16 With this idea, we started using a POP cast for the treatment of auricular seroma and found it to be a promising treatment as it prevents surgical trauma and recurrence and gives cosmetically excellent results.…”
