Due to the global orientation of the international economy, the availability of data in several languages, and the creation of previously unheard-of communication channels, there has been a significant increase in the need for professional translation services in recent years. Manual translation techniques are no longer sufficient for translators to fulfill the expanding demands of clients and companies. As a result, several translation technologies have been created to aid both experts and students of translation in creating high-quality translations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the extent of the use of computer-aided translation tools in French to Igbo language translation among French language students in Colleges of Education in South-Eastern Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design in which a validated 10 items questionnaire termed the ‘Scale for Measuring the Effectiveness of Computer-aided Translation Tools (SMECTT)’ was developed by the researcher in line with the research questions, and was used to elicit information from respondents in the zone. Cronbach alpha was used to determine the instrument's dependability. Data were collected from 130 participants. Analyzing the data produced from the study will involve using descriptive statistics. The findings reveal variations in tool exposure and usage among students, with preferences for specific tools such as Google Translate. However, limitations are observed in addressing grammar and syntax errors. The study highlights the importance of training and guidance in tool utilization, suggesting potential improvements in language education and translation practices for French language students in South-Eastern Nigeria.

Linguistic competence is crucial to developing a deep understanding of the contents of Islamic texts, which are typically written in Arabic. Linguistic competence varies, particularly among non-native speakers of Arabic, and mastering the language can be challenging at times. The present study uses an online survey to investigate students' perceptions of the effectiveness of learning translation skills in enhancing students learning process. This study also assesses the students' performance in various tasks to support their statements. This study involves third-year undergraduate students majoring in different fields of Islamic Studies at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA). They took a translation module as part of their respective programme structure. Results revealed that some students expressed their difficulties in finding equivalent terms. However, they solved the problems by applying translation techniques and strategies they learned in the course. Learning translation skills did not only help them understand religious texts easily. However, it also helped them improve other language skills through various translation exercises. They also mentioned that translation skills, such as analytical, research, technological and teamwork skills, are beneficial when writing assignments for other modules.

The prevalence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in this modern era has been one of the major interests in translation studies. The ability of AI to produce human-like translations has become an ongoing discussion among scholars. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the utility of AI in providing alternatives for journalistic text translation results made by English Department students of Universitas Palangka Raya during a Translation Course. Given the communicative nature of journalistic texts, this study explores how culturally distinctive features, such as idioms, collocations, traditional language nuances, and organization names, are translated from Indonesian into English. By referring to translation strategies adapted from Newmark (1988), Hoed (2006), and Baker (2011), translation results made by students are compared with those generated by AI technology, i.e. DeepL and ChatGPT. Since creativity is one of the key characteristics of human translation, this study examines whether AI systems can be reliable tools for demonstrating the same creativity level. Translation creativity in this study refers to the ability to select the most effective strategies and wording to produce better translation versions of those culturally distinctive features. This study is expected to shed light on the evolving role of AI in the field of translation.
