A Study of Bolton’s and Pont’s Analysis on Permanent Dentition of Nepalese

Abstract: The Bolton's analysis and Pont's analysis are very useful calculations for orthodontic diagnosis. In Nepal, there is no study about Bolton's and Pont's analysis. So here we examined 100 Nepalese subjects all subjects were with molar and canine class I relationship. We have measured the model to establish a normative standard of Bolton's OR and AR for Nepalese population and to find the reliability of Pont's index for Nepalese, and to comparing them between Caucasian and Chinese. The normative value on OR of Ne… Show more

“…As seen from the results, the majority of observed measurements were significantly less than calculated values, which means that Pont’s Index in general overestimates the dental arch widths values in Lithuanian individuals. This is in agreement with results of other studies, where overestimation of values were found [6,10,12-14]. Nimkarn et al [12] found that Pont’s Index overestimated interpremolar arch width by 4.7 mm and intermolar arch width by 2.5 mm.…”

“…Al-Omari et al [6] in a recent study reported low (r = 0.25 to 0.39) correlation between calculated and measured dental arch widths in Jordanians. In addition, Hong et al [10], in their study on Nepalese population, have found very low correlation (r = 0.07 to 0.29). On the other hand, studies, approving use of Pont’s Index are present as well.…”

“…Poznata je činjenica da se veličina zuba razlikuje između polova i populacija 1,[6][7][8][9]22 . Zbog toga je klinička primena Pontovog indeksa bila tema brojnih studija sa namerom da se odredi da li se može koristiti u predviđanju idealne širine zubnog luka kod pripadnika razičitih naroda [15][16][17][18]20,[23][24][25] .…”

“…Indices were based on mesiodistal incisors width was investigated on various populations around the globe with agreements and disagreements 19,21,22,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] . Aimed at the successful orthodontic treatment the tooth size discrepancy should be evaluated before treatment 32) as the tooth size and arch dimension has sexual disparities 17,32 .…”

“…Based on the mesiodistal width indices in several populations either underestimated or overestimated the inter-premolar and intermolar widths 29,[35][36][37] . Current study revealed the arch width prediction with more simplicity and accuracy by using tooth perimeter.…”
