A study about the effect of the temperature of hydrogen treatment on the properties of Ru/Al2O3 and Ru/C and their catalytic behavior during 1-heptyne semi-hydrogenation

Abstract: The 1-heptyne selective hydrogenation carried out at 150 kPa, and at 283 and 303 K using Ru/Al 2 O 3 and Ru/C as catalysts, was studied. Catalysts were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation technique using RuCl 3 as precursor. Ru/Al 2 O 3 was treated in hydrogen at 373 or 573 K and Ru/C only at the last temperature. Catalysts were characterized by hydrogen chemisorption, TPR and XPS. Ru dispersion after treatment in hydrogen at the highest temperature is similar for both catalysts. Ru is present as Ru… Show more

“…Samples were prereduced in situ 1 h at 483 K .To correct possible deviations caused by electronic charge on the samples, the Al 2p line was taken as an internal standard at 74.4 eV. The areas under the peaks were estimated by calculating the integral of each peak after subtracting the Shirley background and fitting the experimental peak to a combination of Lorentzian and Gaussian lines of 30-70% proportions [13].…”

“…16 To increase the selectivity to the alkene, milder conditions of hydrogen pressure and temperature are normally used. 3 In previous papers 17 we have studied the semi-hydrogenation of a long chain alkyne (1-heptyne) using high-loaded Pd and Ru supported catalysts. The influence of different supports (alumina and an activated carbon) as well as reaction and reduction temperatures, were analyzed in those papers.…”
