A structured analysis of Hubble tension

Wim Beenakker,
David Venhoek

Abstract: As observations of the Hubble parameter from both early and late sources have improved, the tension between these has increased to be well above the 5σ threshold. Given this, the need for an explanation of such a tension has grown. In this paper, we explore a set of 7 assumptions, and show that, in order to alleviate the Hubble tension, a model needs to break at least one of these 7, providing a quick and easy to apply check for new model proposals. We also use this framework to make a rough categorisation of … Show more

“…Far away from the vertex, the use of λ as a meaningful foliation scalar must be carefully re-assessed. 5 As a result of the fact that l µ does not in general generate a geodesic null congruence, it does not in general satisfy the condition (6). For the same reason, l µ is not necessarily hypersurface-forming.…”

“…The reaction to the cosmological tension has been varied with numerous proposals for solutions [20,21] with a large portion of the community still seeking some systematics source to the cosmological tensions problem. However, these efforts are diminished with every new data release.…”

“…The Hubble tension as the claimed discrepancy between the values of the Hubble parameter associated to the early and late Universe treatments, is attracting much attention [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]. The key issue is whether it is a signature of principally new physical concepts or outlines the need of more accurate observational data analysis and interpretation within the existing concepts.…”
