A statistical analysis on the influence of process and solution properties on centrifugally spun nanofiber morphology

Abstract: Centrifugal spinning is a fast and safe nanofiber production technique and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers have been widely studied for many applications including energy storage, filtration, sensors, and biomedical applications. Nanofiber morphology, specific surface area, porosity and average fiber diameter are important to determine the performance of nanofibers in these fields. In centrifugal spinning, nanofiber morphology and average fiber diameter are influenced by solution properties and process para… Show more

“…Although CNFs can be produced via different techniques, such as electrospinning, self-assembly, template synthesis, and chemical vapor deposition, centrifugal spinning has attracted significant attention owing to its high production rate, low cost, and reliable safety [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. In this study, CNFs and MoS 2 -decorated graphene@porous CNFs were prepared for the first time by combining centrifugal spining, a novel, fast, and reliable production technique, hydrothermal synthesis, and heat treatment processing.…”

“…[15][16][17] Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) has been commonly used as carbon precursor owing to its high carbon yield and good mechanical properties. [18][19][20][21][22] Production of high performance electrode materials via low cost and facile approach is vital to use sodium ion batteries in practical applications. 3,9,23 Morphology, porosity and pore structure, affect the electrochemical properties of carbon materials and nanober production technique inuence the porosity and pore structure.…”

“…Furthermore, this technique has the merits of low cost and environmental friendliness due to low consumption of toxic solvents. 14,15 Recently, different approaches have been reported to prepare Ge/carbon anodes such as solution-based, thermal evaporation, arc-discharge, and chemical vapor deposition methods. Among them, nanostructured one-dimensional (1D) hybrid electrodes are promising considering the benefits of 1D nanostructured carbon electrodes including buffering against volume expansion, high interfacial stability, high conductivity, short electron and ion transport channels, and hybrid structure; however achieving uniform distribution of active materials is challenging, and pulverization and aggregation of active materials lead to capacity fading.…”
