A Statistical Analysis of the Waiting Activity in Offshore Waters - A Case of Hanshin Port -

Abstract

SummaryThis paper describes the real condition of vessel's waiting activities in offshore waters using the AIS dataset taken by Kobe university. The findings are as follows; (1) large vessels are less frequently waiting, but once they start waiting, the time of waiting is getting long, (2) vessels are waiting for the start of cargo handling at port so that they start waiting from late afternoon and exit from that status in the next morning. This paper also estimates the density function of the waiting time. Using this estimated density, the paper evaluates the effect of weather routing through the change in waiting activities.
