“…Although the literature review yields conflicting information of the best predictors of academic success, past academic achievement as indicated by entry GPA and reading skill may be the two strongest predictors of success noted in the literature to date (McClelland, Yang, & Glick, 1992 proposed investigation and the sample of Chacko and Huba was from a two-year community college nursing program, the results help delineate the need for this current investigation. The model which emerged for these researchers depicted reading ability and language ability to be directly related to academic achievement.…”

“…In a comprehensive study recently published in the literature with a sample size of 1,069 graduates, the prenursing GPA emerged as one of the best predictors of academic success (McClelland, Yang, & Glick, 1992). The results were obtained from a sample of nursing students between 1985 to 1988; therefore, the results reflect success on the first NCLEX-RN, the examination after 1988 had an increase in content difficulty and caution must be used in generalizing these results.…”

“…Adams (1990), Felts (1986, Fowles (1992), Gilmore (2006), McClelland et al (1992, Muecke (2008), Rami (1992), Sharp (1986), andVandenhouten (2008) all found that pre-admission variables were predictive of success on the NCLEX. Although Thompson (1989) found that the math preadmission assessment was statistically significant on the NCLEX-PN, Aldag and Rose (1983), Hawsey (2007), and Woodham and Taube (1986) found that the math assessment was not significant as a predictor of success on the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN, respectively.…”

“…In a study composed of 1069 baccalaureate nursing students, McClelland, Yang, and Glick (1992) whom no record of passing was available; investigators found no differences in age or types of programs in which students were enrolled. There was a significant difference in the GP A of students in the two groups.…”
