A Stable Fe-Zn Modified Sludge-Derived Biochar for Diuron Removal: Kinetics, Isotherms, Mechanism, and Practical Research

Abstract: To remove typical herbicide diuron effectively, a novel sludge-derived modified biochar (SDMBC600) was prepared using sludge-derived biochar (SDBC600) as raw material and Fe-Zn as an activator and modifier in this study. The physico-chemical properties of SDMBC600 and the adsorption behavior of diuron on the SDMBC600 were studied systematically. The adsorption mechanisms as well as practical applications of SDMBC600 were also investigated and examined. The results showed that the SDMBC600 was chemically loaded… Show more

“…The adsorption/desorption curve of WHCBC had an H3 hysteresis loop. The curve type was a typical type IV isotherm, according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry classification (Figure S3a), which was of the characteristics for mesoporous materials [36]. In addition, the pore volume and average pore size of WHCBC were higher than those of WHBC.…”

“…It is therefore necessary to establish the equilibrium relationship between the solid and liquid phase Cd concentrations under the equilibrium conditions. In this study, the adsorption capacity of Cd by cow manure and corn straw magnetic biochars were investigated with the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms (Liu et al 2023).…”
