A stable and practical etoposide-containing intravenous long-/medium-chain triglycerides-based lipid emulsion formulation: pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, toxicity, and antitumor efficacy

Abstract: These results suggest that this LCT/MCT-based lipid emulsion is a promising alternative intravenous carrier for etoposide with high stability, improved convenience, alleviated toxicity, and noncompromised antitumor efficacy.

“…ETM-ILE enters the mononuclear phagocyte system or is metabolized as endogenous chylomicrons, and cleared from the blood owing to its small particle size. The incorporation of MCT in ETM-ILE resulted in faster clearance (Dong et al., 2013 ). These factors may explain the similar pharmacokinetic profiles of ETM-ILE and ETM-SOL in rats.…”

“…At the end point, mice were sacrificed and the tumors from each group were collected and weighed. Furthermore, the tumor suppression rate (TSR) was calculated using the formula TSR = (1 − Wt/Wc) × 100%, where Wt and Wc represent the mean final tumor weight of treated group and negative control group, respectively (Dong et al., 2013). When the tumor size reached 20 mm in any direction, it was considered as the humane endpoint (Mitchell et al., 2011).…”
