A specific role of iron in promoting meristematic cell division during adventitious root formation

Abstract: The essential role of iron in formation of adventitious roots is associated with an enhanced allocation of this element to actively dividing cells, highlighting a specific function in meristem development.

“…ARR3 and ARR4 are type-A of response regulators ( Hwang et al, 2012 ) that are quickly induced by CKs and that redundantly regulate branching patters in the shoot in response to nitrate availability ( Müller et al, 2015 ). Recently, ammonium has been shown to improve adventitious rooting in leafy cuttings of Petunia hybrida ( Hilo et al, 2017 ). Further investigations will clarify the role of DcARR3 and DcARR4 in nutrient-induced AR formation in carnation stem cuttings.…”

“…Our results suggest that nuclei may be a reservoir of iron during seed development or that iron may have unknown functions in nuclei of embryos in torpedo stage. Very recently, a specific role of iron in promoting meristematic cell division in adventitious root formation has been proposed ( Hilo et al, 2017 ), however, the molecular role of iron in nuclei remains unknown.…”

“…Soluble sugars and amino acids were determined according to Hajirezaei et al (2000) and Hilo et al (2017). Extraction and analysis of Trp, tryptamine, and serotonin was performed as described previously (Cao et al, 2006;Kang et al, 2009).…”
