In South Africa, a low‐ and middle‐income country, drowning accounts to more than 90% of unintentional drowning deaths, especially among children aged 1–4 years (Fortuin et al, 2022; Schmidt et al, 2019), followed by the age groups 5–9 years (WHO, 2020).
