A Soil Quality Index to Evaluate the Vermicompost Amendments Effects on Soil Properites

Abstract: The aims of this work were 1) to evaluate the changes in soil properties with the application of different amounts of vermicompost (10 and 20 Mg?ha–1), and 2) to construct a soil quality index that allows the evaluation of changes in the most sensitive soil parameters. The study was carried out in a cattle field of General Alvear, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vermicompost application showed a positive effect on most of the chemical and biological soil properties evaluated, especially with th… Show more

“…The soil-quality index (SQI) can be used to summarize the information given by the measured parameters as a whole (Romaniuk et al, 2011). Compared with NF, the SQI of treatment N0P0 increased by 3.5% and 5.4% in the surface and subsurface soils.…”

“…A scientific and reasonable soil-quality assessment method should consider not only the interaction of soil parameters but also the effect of each soil indicator's weight on the soil-quality-assessment result (Romaniuk et al, 2011). Based on the literature, a weighted method was employed in this study with Eq.…”
