A software approach for identifying the effect of dental caries on dentin–enamel junction

Abstract: Dental decay is the most prevalent oral disease worldwide since more than 2.4 billion people suffer from caries of permanent teeth. Therefore, any details about its progression into the hard-dental tissues could contribute to unravelling the mechanisms underlying this process. We have analyzed dental tissue sections with and without caries in order to detect structure differences corelating them with clinical aspects observable from the tooth surface. Our working hypothesis was based on finding a link between … Show more

“…The competency of endodontic filling can be assessed in vitro by destructive and non-destructive investigation methods like dye penetration tests, bacterial penetration tests, penetration of radioisotopes, proteins and endotoxin penetration tests, gas chromatography, electrochemical leakage tests, fluid-transport model, fluorometric tests. Beyond X-rays and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), which are saved to in vivo and clinical evaluation, the research domain is now focusing for in vitro imagistic investigation like scanning electron microscopy (SEM), spectrophotometry, micro-computed tomography (μCT) [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ].…”
