A sodium ferrocenyl-phosphanide polymer based on racemic primary aminoalkyl(bisphosphanyl)ferrocene

Abstract: The primary aminoalkyl(bisphosphanyl)ferrocenes 2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)-1,1'-bis(phosphanyl)ferrocene (3a) and N,N-dimethyl-1-[1',2-bis(phosphanyl)ferrocenyl]ethylamine (3b) are readily available in two steps from the corresponding aminoalkylferrocenes. Deprotonation of 3a gave the first alkali metal aminoalkyl(bisphosphanido)ferrocene (4) as a one-dimensional polymer.

Furthermore, transition-metal-mediated homo- and cross-coupling reactions have been performed with derived 2-halo- and 2-lithioferrocenes, furnishing aryl- and alkynyl-substituted ferrocenes as well as biferrocenes. “…To date, several procedures for preparation of alkali metal phosphanides have been described in the literature. , The most common method is direct metalation of a primary or secondary phosphane with a strong deprotonating agent such as an alkyl lithium or alkali metal hydride . Other methods include direct metalation of a primary or secondary phosphane with a heavier alkali metal and P–C aryl cleavage of an aryl-substituted tertiary phosphane with an alkali metal in a donor solvent or in liquid ammonia or with the help of a strong base such as n BuLi .…”
