This study contributes to the literature by applying goal-setting theory and the job demands-resources model to investigate how motivational processes influence students' proactive career behaviours. We tested four hypotheses using structural equation modelling and moderation/ mediation analysis using a nested model approach; 432 undergraduates from 21 UK universities participated in this cross-sectional study. The results showed that students higher in mastery approach had greater perceived employability mediated by two proactive career behaviours (skill development and network building). Students' career goal commitment was associated with all four proactive career behaviours (career planning, skill development, career consultation and network building). Students' academic and employment workloads did not negatively impact their proactive career behaviours. University tutors and career services should therefore encourage students to set challenging career goals that reflect mastery approach.

Antecedents and outcomes of breadth and depth of absorptive capacity: An empirical study

Although previous studies have considered the antecedents and outcomes of absorptive capacity, much remains to be learned on this subject. Firms need to absorb breadth and depth of knowledge and form absorptive capacities that are contingent on various social capitals to improve innovation and performance. The purpose of this study is to explore the antecedents and outcomes of the breadth and depth of absorptive capacity from the perspective of social capital theory. Based on a sample of 218 Chinese firms, empirical results suggest that weak tie sources and knowledge breadth can enhance the breadth of absorptive capacity, and that strong tie sources and knowledge depth can strengthen the depth of absorptive capacity. The results also suggest that the breadth of absorptive capacity positively impacts the depth of absorptive capacity, and that both breadth and depth of absorptive capacity are positively related to innovation performance.

Research on trade credit has been growing in recent years, contributing to our understanding of the phenomenon. However, the main problem is probably the impact of the contingent nature of the payment practices used by companies. The purpose of this paper is to address the determinants of trade credit in the Cameroonian context. Based on a sample of 65 Cameroonian companies observed in 2006, the econometric investigations highlight a genuine financial intermediation business close to productive activity. We used a general model incorporating both financial variables, transactional and sociocultural in order to estimate the joint effect of all explanatory variables on the trade credit which is a kind of investment in business relationship. Logistic regression results confirmed the positive and significant correlation between rationing and trade credit. There is also apparent influence of contingency factors on sociocultural commercial time through social capital and ethnicity of trade and investment partners. Moreover the manager share of capital positively influences the duration of the trade credit where as the financial motive is one that mostly influences to the companies' behavior.
