A Small-Size High-Rejection LTCC Diplexer for WLAN Applications Based on a New Dual-Band Bandpass Filter.

Abstract: This paper presents a new very small Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) diplexer based on a dualband bandpass filter for Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11 a/bIg) application. The diplexer and the dual-band filter design have been realized and demonstrated in this article. Measurement results agree quite well with simulation. The new type of such diplexer significantly reduces the number of components and the size of dual-band WLAN frontend modules.

“…In [8,9], microstrip diplexer based on dual-passband filter is also designed to reduce the size of the diplexer, however the large size of the matching networks limit the effect of size reduction. In [10], compact diplexer based on double-sided parallel-strip line is realized, but this diplexer is based on multilayer structure.…”

“…Besides the size reduction, high performance for microstrip diplexer is also important. In [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10], each diplexer still has one or two drawbacks of the performance of the diplexers, such as selectivity, isolation, harmonic suppression, and frequency-ratio range of the two passbands.…”

“…Among several technologies to realise compact and high integrated RF components and modules, LTCC is one of the most promising technologies. For this reason, many passive components and RF front-end modules (FEMs) using LTCC technology have been reported [1][2][3][4].…”

“…Unlike the conventional diplexer and duplexer [2][3][4], the proposed filter can play a role of a LPF or a BPF for the same frequency band with very low insertion loss and fairly high isolation between the LPF and BPF. The realisation of the proposed filter is achieved by LTCC technology.…”
