A Slip-Line Field Model for the Determination of Chip Curl Radius

Abstract: A slip-line field model is presented for the determination of the chip curl radius when cutting with a grooved restricted contact tool. The calculated values are found to provide a good approximation, especially for larger uncut chip thicknesses. The calculated results are consistently lower than the measured ones due to the elastic recovery of the chip after leaving the groove.
