A single-phase full-color phosphor based on Ba 3 MgSi 2 O 8 co-activated with Eu 2+ , Tb 3+ , and Mn 2+

Abstract: a b s t r a c tWe present a rapid and energy-efficient microwave-assisted approach to prepare a single-phase fullcolor phosphor based on Ba 3 MgSi 2 O 8 . The samples were prepared using a citric acid based solegel preparation pathway with a microwave-assisted heating step, which reduces the time required for the final heat treatment to less than 30 min. Thermogravimetric analysis was utilized to optimize the solution-based preparation prior to microwave heating. The structural properties of the obtained lumin… Show more

“…1,2 . In particular, glaseritetype hexagonal Ba3MgSi2O8 shows very high tunability of emission which depends on the type of activation ion (Eu 2+ , Mn 2+ , Tb 3+ ) or mixture thereof 3,4 . The incorporation of Mn 2+ into the structure was assumed to occur on the Mg 2+ site due to its similar ionic radius; however, the end member Ba3MnSi2O8 was never investigated in detail.…”
