“…The WHO highly recommends that the organization of IPC programs must have clearly defined objectives based on local epidemiology and priorities according to risk assessment and functions that align with and contribute to the prevention of HCAI and the spread of AMR in health care. 1,21 Our findings support this recommendation as we discovered a positive relationship between an IPC program with clearly defined objectives and the advance IPC level. The odds of a facility with clearly defined IPC objectives having a better IPC overall outlook was much higher than facilities without.…”

“…Serving as a teaching hospital as well, there is a continuous inflow of medical residents and junior practitioners, putting a high IP training load on the IPC staff. According to the latest publicly available National Nosocomial Surveillance System data, the average ABHR use was 10.7 L/1000 patient days (based on 22 institutions), which is merely half of the WHO recommended amount [ 39 ]. While the consumption went up significantly during the COVID-19, it is still significantly lagging behind international averages.…”

“…The isolation of NDM‐1 K. pneumoniae underlines the need to reinforce infection prevention and control measures in our hospital, encompassing the implementation of the active surveillance for CRE carriage or screening of colonization on hospital admission, pre‐emptive isolation, proper reprocessing of medical devices, contact precautions, hand hygiene, dedicated nursing, staff education, environmental cleaning and antimicrobial stewardship programmes (Ripabelli et al . 2018, 2019; ECDC 2019b).…”
